BMW 503 Cabriolet oli üks esimesi järelsõjaaegseid Saksamaa luksuskabriolette, mis ühendas inseneritipptaseme, esteetika ja eksklusiivsuse. The BMW 503 Cabriolet was one of the first post-war German luxury convertibles, combining top-level engineering, refined aesthetics, and exclusivity. The model made its debut at the 1955 Frankfurt Motor Show, alongside the 503 Coupé and the 507 sports car. It was part of BMW’s strategic effort to re-enter the luxury car market by offering a dignified, open-top grand tourer aimed at affluent clients in both Europe and the United States.
The 503 Cabriolet was technically identical to the coupé version—at its heart was a full-aluminum 3.2-liter V8 engine, delivering 140 horsepower and allowing for a top speed of around 190 km/h. A four-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive made the car a strong and smooth performer, even on long-distance journeys. The design was the work of Albrecht von Goertz, who shaped a streamlined, elegant, and well-balanced body that appeared especially distinguished in open-top form.
The interior was hand-finished with luxurious leather upholstery, wood trim, and chrome details. It was also the first BMW to offer electric windows and an optional radio system. The cabriolet’s folding roof added a unique charm, combining driving pleasure with a sense of freedom.
Despite its aesthetic and technical quality, the 503 Cabriolet remained rare—only 139 units were produced between 1956 and 1959.
