Return to BMW 7 Series

BMW 750Li (F02)

Background

BMW 750Li (F02) was the long-wheelbase V8 version of the fifth-generation BMW 7 Series introduced in 2008. The F02 body offered additional space particularly for rear-seat passengers, while the 750Li combined this executive character with a powerful twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It was one of the key models in the original new-generation 7 Series range.

Long-wheelbase luxury saloon

The BMW 750Li featured a wheelbase 140 millimetres longer than the standard 7 Series, extending it to 3,210 millimetres. Overall length was 5,212 mm. The extra space was used primarily to improve rear-seat comfort, with available equipment including electrically adjustable seats, massage and ventilation functions, four-zone climate control and rear-seat entertainment.

407 hp twin-turbocharged V8

The original BMW 750Li was powered by a 4,395 cm³ twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine producing 407 hp / 300 kW and 600 Nm of torque. Its two turbochargers were positioned between the cylinder banks, while High Precision Injection direct fuel injection was also employed. Strong torque from low engine speeds provided the large luxury saloon with smooth and effortless acceleration.

5.3 seconds

The BMW 750Li accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and reached an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The original version featured a six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. An xDrive all-wheel-drive version was added later.

A new generation of luxury and technology

The 750Li offered some of BMW’s most advanced luxury and driver assistance technologies. Alongside the new-generation iDrive system, available features included Integral Active Steering, Night Vision with pedestrian detection, Active Cruise Control and various lane monitoring systems. The long-wheelbase body made the model particularly well suited to executive use while retaining BMW’s traditional emphasis on driving dynamics.

The 2012 model update

The 750Li received significant technical updates in 2012. Output from the 4.4-litre V8 increased to 450 hp, while torque rose to 650 Nm. An eight-speed automatic transmission was introduced and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h improved to 4.8 seconds. Exterior styling and electronic systems were also revised.

The V8 model of the F02 generation

The BMW 750Li formed part of the F01/F02 generation produced from 2008 to 2015 at BMW Plant Dingolfing in Germany. According to BMW’s official figures, approximately 370,000 cars of this generation were manufactured. The 750Li was an important part of the range, combining a long wheelbase, V8 performance and the highest levels of 7 Series luxury.
