BMW 2002 Baur oli üks eksootilisemaid ja haruldasemaid 02-seeria derivaate, mille tootis Saksamaa keretootja Karosserie Baur koostöös BMW-ga. Tegemist oli nn “Top Cabriolet” lahendusega, kus ühendati sportauto jäikus ja juhitavus klassikalise kabrioleti avatavusega. Bauri konstruktsioon ei olnud täiskabriolett: selle keskosa katus oli eemaldatav ja tagumine osa kokkuklapitav – Targa-stiilis lahendus, mis tagas kerele täiendava struktuurse tugevuse ja vähendas vibratsiooni.
Tootmisaastateks olid 1971–1975 ja selle viieaastase perioodi jooksul valmis kokku ainult 2,517 eksemplari, mis teeb sellest mudelist ühe kõige haruldasema E10-põhise seeriamudeli. Bauri versioon põhines täielikult 2002 standardmudelil, kasutades 2.0-liitrist M10-seeria neljasilindrilist mootorit, mille maksimaalvõimsus oli 100 hj (74 kW) @ 5500 p/min ning pöördemoment 157 Nm @ 3500 p/min.
Veoskeem oli klassikaline: ees pikisuunas paigutatud mootor ja tagavedu. Käigukastiks oli 4-käiguline manuaal, mille käiguulatus ja sünkroniseerimine olid tol ajal eeskujulikud. Vedrustus koosnes ees MacPherson-tüüpi süsteemist ning taga kasutati sõltumatut poolraamsüsteemi, mis tagas kindla kontakti teekattega ja sujuva sõidukogemuse. Pidurisüsteemis olid ees ketaspidurid, taga trummelpidurid – tüüpiline lahendus selle ajastu kompaktautodele. Tühimass oli ca 990 kg, ning tippkiirus ulatus 170 km/h, võimaldades paindlikku ja nauditavat sõitu nii katus peal kui avatuna.

The BMW 2002 Baur was one of the most exotic and rarest derivatives of the 02 Series, built by the German coachbuilder Karosserie Baur in cooperation with BMW. It featured a so-called “Top Cabriolet” configuration that combined the rigidity and handling of a sports car with the open-air experience of a classic convertible. Unlike a full convertible, the Baur design was a Targa-style solution, with a removable roof panel in the middle and a folding soft top at the rear – providing additional structural strength and reduced body flex.
Produced between 1971 and 1975, only 2,517 units of the Baur 2002 were built over a five-year period, making it one of the rarest factory-approved E10-based variants. The Baur version was mechanically identical to the standard 2002 model, powered by a 2.0-liter M10-series inline-four engine, delivering a maximum output of 100 hp (74 kW) at 5500 rpm and 157 Nm of torque at 3500 rpm.
The drivetrain followed the classic layout: a longitudinally mounted front engine with rear-wheel drive. The standard gearbox was a 4-speed manual transmission, praised at the time for its precise gear ratios and smooth synchronisation. Suspension consisted of MacPherson struts up front and an independent semi-trailing arm setup in the rear, offering good road contact and a refined ride quality. Brakes were discs at the front and drums at the rear – a typical setup for compact cars of that era. The curb weight was approximately 990 kg, and the top speed reached 170 km/h, allowing for flexible and enjoyable driving both with the roof up and open.
