BMW 5. seeria Sedan (E39) on neljanda põlvkonna 5. seeria, mida peetakse sageli üheks kõige õnnestunumaks ja tasakaalustatumaks BMW ärisedaaniks. Mudelit esitleti 1995. aastal ning see tõi 5. seeriasse märgatavalt moodsama disaini, kõrgema viimistluskvaliteedi ja parema aerodünaamika. Tehniliselt tõi E39 mudeliperekond kaasa mitmeid olulisi uuendusi, sealhulgas ulatuslikuma alumiiniumi kasutuse veermikus ja laia valiku nelja-, kuue- ja kaheksasilindrilisi mootoreid. Sedaani tootmine kestis 2003. aastani ning mudel jäi BMW ajalukku kui üks klassikalise tagaveolise 5. seeria parimaid näiteid. Sama mudelipere tippu kuulus ka M5, mis viis E39 platvormi võimekuse täiesti uuele tasemele ja on tänaseni üks hinnatumaid BMW M-mudeleid.

The BMW 5 Series Sedan (E39) is the fourth-generation 5 Series and is often regarded as one of the most successful and best-balanced BMW executive sedans ever built. Introduced in 1995, it brought a more modern design, improved build quality and better aerodynamics to the 5 Series range. The E39 stood out for its clean proportions, elegant lines and driver-focused character, helping to cement the 5 Series as a sporty yet highly refined model in the executive class. According to BMW Group Classic, total sales of the E39 model family reached nearly 1.5 million cars.
Technically, the E39 family introduced a number of important developments, including more extensive use of aluminium in the chassis and a broad range of four-, six- and eight-cylinder engines. Sedan production continued until 2003, and the model remains one of the best examples of the classic rear-wheel-drive BMW 5 Series formula. At the top of the same model family was the M5, which took the E39 platform to an entirely new level and remains one of the most highly regarded BMW M cars to this day.
