BMW M3 Coupé (E36) 1996. aasta versioon tähistas E36 M3 olulist edasiarendust, millega BMW muutis juba niigi tunnustatud sportkupee veelgi kiiremaks, teravamaks ja tehniliselt küpsemaks. Kui 1992. aastal esitletud algne E36 M3 tõi M3 mudelirea uude ajastusse, siis uuendatud 3,2-liitrine versioon viis selle arengu sammu võrra edasi. E36 põlvkond oli M3 ajaloos oluline, sest võrreldes varasema E30 M3-ga muutus auto küpsemaks, mugavamaks ja igapäevasemalt kasutatavaks, säilitades samal ajal selgelt sportliku iseloomu.
1995. aastal kasutusele võetud 3,2-liitrine versioon tõi kaasa mitmeid olulisi tehnilisi muudatusi. Suurim neist oli uus S50B32 kuuesilindriline ridamootor, mille töömaht oli 3201 cm³ ja võimsus 321 hobujõudu. Võrreldes varasema 3,0-liitrise M3-ga kasvas nii töömaht kui ka võimsus ning autole lisandus kuuekäiguline manuaalkäigukast. See muutis M3 Coupé veelgi kiiremaks ja paindlikumaks sportautoks, mis sobis ühtviisi hästi nii kiireks maanteesõiduks kui ka entusiastlikuks kurvilisel teel sõitmiseks.
Lisaks tehnilistele muudatustele värskendati ka välimust. Üheks hilisema E36 M3 kergemini äratuntavaks tunnuseks olid valged suunatuled, mis andsid autole modernsema ja puhtama ilme ning eristasid seda varasemast 3,0-liitrisest versioonist. M3 Coupé säilitas E36 kupee tasakaalustatud proportsioonid, kuid koos M-spetsiifiliste detailide, sportlikuma veermiku ja võimsama mootoriga kujunes sellest üks E36 põlvkonna kõige ihaldusväärsemaid versioone.

BMW M3 Coupé 3,2-liitrine versioon oli E36 M3 perekonna kõige küpsem kupeekerega arendus. See ühendas tugeva kuuesilindrilise mootori, tagaveo, täpse juhitavuse ja igapäevakasutuseks piisava mugavuse viisil, mis on muutnud selle mudeli tänaseni BMW entusiastide seas väga hinnatuks. BMW Group Classici andmetel toodeti 321 hj M3 Coupé versiooni kokku 8962 eksemplari ning seda valmistati Regensburgis.

BMW M3 Coupé (E36) in its 1996 version marked an important further development of the E36 M3, with BMW making an already highly regarded sports coupé even faster, sharper and technically more mature. While the original E36 M3, introduced in 1992, brought the M3 model line into a new era, the updated 3.2-litre version took this development one step further. The E36 generation was important in the history of the M3 because, compared with the earlier E30 M3, it became more mature, more comfortable and more usable in everyday driving, while still retaining a clearly sporting character.
The 3.2-litre version, introduced in 1995, brought several important technical changes. The most significant of these was the new S50B32 six-cylinder in-line engine, with a displacement of 3201 cc and an output of 321 hp. Compared with the earlier 3.0-litre M3, both displacement and power increased, and the car also gained a six-speed manual gearbox. This made the M3 Coupé an even faster and more flexible sports car, equally well suited to fast road driving and enthusiastic driving on winding roads.
In addition to the technical changes, the appearance was also updated. One of the most easily recognisable features of the later E36 M3 was its clear indicator lenses, which gave the car a cleaner and more modern look and helped distinguish it from the earlier 3.0-litre version. The M3 Coupé retained the balanced proportions of the E36 coupé, but with M-specific details, a sportier chassis and a more powerful engine, it became one of the most desirable versions of the E36 generation.

The 3.2-litre BMW M3 Coupé was the most mature coupé-bodied development of the E36 M3 family. It combined a strong six-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive, precise handling and enough everyday comfort in a way that has made the model highly regarded among BMW enthusiasts to this day. According to BMW Group Classic, a total of 8962 examples of the 321 hp M3 Coupé version were produced, and the model was built in Regensburg.
