BMW 318i Baur TC2 (E30) on üks huvitavamaid kõrvalharusid E30 põlvkonna ajaloos ning esindab ajajärku, mil BMW pakkus avatud kerega 3. seeriat veel koostöös kereehitajaga Baur. Enne kui BMW tõi 1985. aastal turule oma täisväärtusliku E30 Cabriolet’ mudeli, oli klientidel võimalik tellida E30 põhjal valminud Baur Topcabriolet, mida tuntakse ka tähise TC2 all. Selle lahenduse eripära seisnes selles, et auto säilitas tugeva tuuleklaamiraami ja keskmise turvakaare, samal ajal kui katuse esiosa ja tagumine osa olid avatavad. Nii ühendas Baur kabrioleti sõiduelamuse suurema keretugevuse ja ohutusega.
Tehniliselt põhines BMW 318i Baur TC2 tavalisel E30 318i-l ning kasutas 1,8-liitrist neljasilindrilist mootorit. Mudel pakkus klassikalist tagaveolist BMW sõidutunnet, kuid lisas sellele avatud kerega auto emotsiooni ja omanäolise välimuse. E30 Baur TC2 tähtsus seisneb selles, et see tähistab üleminekuperioodi varasemate Bauri lahenduste ja BMW enda tehasetoodangu kabriolettide vahel. BMW Group Classicu andmetel toodeti E30 põhjal kokku 14 455 Baur Topcabriolet’d, mis teeb sellest küll mitte üliharuldase, kuid väga omanäolise ja tänapäeval hinnatud eriversiooni.

The BMW 318i Baur TC2 (E30) is one of the most interesting side branches in the history of the E30 generation and represents the period when BMW still offered an open-top 3 Series in cooperation with the coachbuilder Baur. Before BMW introduced its own full E30 Cabriolet in 1985, customers could order the E30-based Baur Topcabriolet, also known as the TC2. The special feature of this design was that the car retained a strong windscreen frame and central roll bar, while the front roof section and rear part could be opened separately. In this way, Baur combined much of the convertible experience with greater body rigidity and safety.
Technically, the BMW 318i Baur TC2 was based on the regular E30 318i and used a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine. It offered the classic rear-wheel-drive BMW driving feel, while adding the emotion and distinctive appearance of an open-top car. The significance of the E30 Baur TC2 lies in the way it represents a transitional phase between the earlier Baur solutions and BMW’s own factory-built convertibles. According to BMW Group Classic, a total of 14,455 E30-based Baur Topcabriolets were built, making it not ultra-rare, but certainly a very distinctive and today well-regarded special version.
