The BMW Neue Klasse represents one of the most important turning points in BMW history, because it was this model family that laid the foundation for the brand’s modern identity. In the early 1960s, the Neue Klasse helped move the company into a new era by introducing modern, sporting and technically well-developed sedans that clearly differed from both the post-war luxury cars and the smaller survival models such as the Isetta and 600. The Neue Klasse was not simply a new model line, but a decisive starting point for BMW’s entire future.
The models of this era show very clearly how BMW began to shape its well-known combination of sporty driving character, elegant design and everyday usability. The Neue Klasse brought BMW a clearer and more modern design language, new technical confidence and a strong foundation in the world of sporty midsize sedans.
