BMW 326 Stromlinie Wendler oli üks neist haruldastest sõjaeelsetest BMW eriversioonidest, mis näitab hästi, kui suurt rolli mängisid 1930. aastatel aerodünaamika, eritellimusel kered ja tehniline eksperimenteerimine. BMW 326 ise oli margi esimene neljaukseline seeriamudel ning kujunes oluliseks sammuks BMW arengus mugavamate ja esinduslikumate sõiduautode suunas. The BMW 326 Stromlinie Wendler was one of those rare pre-war BMW special versions that shows very clearly how important aerodynamics, coachbuilt bodies and technical experimentation had become in the 1930s. The BMW 326 itself was the marque’s first four-door production model and represented an important step in BMW’s development toward more comfortable and prestigious passenger cars. The Stromlinie version created by Wendler, however, differed completely from the standard sedan, because it received a streamlined special body whose purpose was to improve aerodynamics and give the car a more modern and technically ambitious appearance. It is precisely such cars that demonstrate how diverse and creative BMW’s pre-war development could be.
Technically, the BMW 326 Stromlinie Wendler was based on the regular BMW 326, but its greatest distinction lay in its hand-built streamlined aluminium body. Wendler was known for high-quality coachbuilt bodies, and in this case the company created a much more futuristic-looking automobile on BMW mechanical foundations, emphasizing flowing surfaces and reduced air resistance. The exact number of cars built is not known, but it was most likely a very small series or even a one-off.
