BMW 2002 GT4 Frua oli üks kõige elegantsemaid ja haruldasemaid 02-seeria põhjal loodud eriprojekte, mis sündis Pietro Frua isikliku algatusena 1969.–1970. aasta paiku. Auto põhines BMW 2002 ti tehnilisel alusel, kuid sai täiesti uue fastback-kujulise 2+2 kupeekere, mis ühendas 02-seeria kompaktse mõõdu ja Itaalia gran turismo laadse joone. Frua ei loonud lihtsalt uut keret, vaid pakkus välja terve alternatiivse tõlgenduse sellest, milline oleks võinud olla luksuslikum ja voolujoonelisem BMW 2002. Just see teeb GT4-st ühe kõige huvitavama kõrvalharu kogu 02-seeria ajaloos.
Tehniliselt kasutas BMW 2002 GT4 Frua 2,0-liitrist neljasilindrilist mootorit, mis pärines BMW 2002 ti mudelilt. Auto jäi siiski väga haruldaseks, sest allikate järgi valmis neid kokku vaid kaks eksemplari. Üks neist kuulub BMW-le, teine paiknes hilisemate kirjelduste järgi Jaapanis erakollektsioonis. See väga väike tootmismaht, koos Frua elegantse disainiga, annab 2002 GT4-le erilise koha nii BMW prototüüpide kui ka Itaalia erikereautode loos.
Minu kollektsioonis olev Matrix Scale Modelsi mudelauto kujutab 1970. aasta autot, pärineb piiratud tiraažist ning kokku toodeti 406 nummerdatud eksemplari. Minu kollektsioonis on mudel number 43.

The BMW 2002 GT4 Frua was one of the most elegant and rare special projects based on the 02 Series, created on Pietro Frua’s own initiative around 1969–1970. The car was based on BMW 2002 ti mechanicals, but received a completely new fastback-style 2+2 coupé body that combined the compact proportions of the 02 Series with an Italian grand touring character. Frua did not merely design a different body, but offered a whole alternative interpretation of what a more luxurious and streamlined BMW 2002 might have looked like. That is exactly what makes the GT4 one of the most interesting side branches in the history of the 02 Series.
Technically, the BMW 2002 GT4 Frua used the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine from the BMW 2002 ti. The car remained extremely rare, however, because sources indicate that only two examples were built. One belongs to BMW, while the other has been described in later sources as being in a private collection in Japan. This extremely low production total, together with Frua’s elegant design, gives the 2002 GT4 a very special place in the story of both BMW prototypes and Italian coachbuilt cars.
The Matrix Scale Models car in my collection represents a 1970 car, comes from a limited production run, and a total of 406 numbered car models were produced. My example is number 43.
