BMW M3 GTR Street (E36) on üks salapärasemaid ja haruldasemaid E36 põlvkonna M3-ga seotud versioone. Kui tavaline BMW M3 (E36) oli juba väga kiire ja hästi tasakaalustatud sportkupee, siis M3 GTR viis sama põhiidee palju agressiivsemasse ja võistluslikumasse suunda. Mudeli taust seostub 1990. aastate alguse GT-võistlustega, eelkõige ADAC GT Cupi programmiga, kus BMW M3 platvormi arendati oluliselt kaugemale tavalisest seeriaautost.

BMW M3 GTR Street (E36) is one of the most mysterious and rare versions connected with the E36-generation M3. While the regular BMW M3 (E36) was already a very fast and well-balanced sports coupé, the M3 GTR took the same basic idea in a much more aggressive and competition-oriented direction. Its background is connected with early-1990s GT racing, especially the ADAC GT Cup programme, where the BMW M3 platform was developed far beyond the standard production car.
The E36 M3 GTR was not an ordinary M3 or simply a more sporting equipment package. Its character was defined by a wider body, enlarged wheel arches, a lower stance and more aggressive aerodynamics. These details clearly pointed to its racing background and gave the car a much stronger appearance than the regular E36 M3. The wide body and sporting add-ons made it one of the most distinctive E36-based BMW interpretations.
In the case of the M3 GTR Street version, it is important to be cautious, as there is little clearly confirmed information about it. Unlike the later E46-generation M3 GTR, which became famous with its V8 engine, the E36 M3 GTR was based on the six-cylinder technical foundation of the E36 M3. The racing car development was connected with track use, while the Street version points to a road-going or street-oriented interpretation. This is what makes the model especially interesting: it stands somewhere between a production car, a racing car and a very limited special version with a partly obscure background.
Technically, the E36 M3 GTR is associated with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine. In the case of the racing version, sources mention significantly higher output than the regular E36 M3, but the exact power and technical specification of the Street version are not clearly confirmed. For this reason, it is more appropriate on the website to emphasise the model’s character, rarity and connection with the racing programme rather than present overly precise technical figures.

The significance of the BMW M3 GTR Street (E36) lies in the way it shows a much more extreme side of the E36 M3 family. The regular E36 M3 combined sportiness with everyday usability, while the GTR Street appears as a much more radical and experimental version. Its wide body, competition-inspired appearance and limited documentation give it a special place in the history of the BMW M3.
