BMW 316 Cabriolet Prototyp Karmann (E21)

BMW 316 Cabriolet Prototyp Karmann (E21) on üks huvitavamaid kõrvalharusid esimese põlvkonna 3. seeria ajaloos, sest tegemist ei olnud seeriatootmisse jõudnud mudeliga, vaid prototüübiga. E21 põlvkond tuli turule 1975. aastal ning selle põhjal kaaluti ka avatud kerevarianti. Ühe võimaliku lahenduse töötas välja Karmann, kes lõi kaheukselise kabrioleti prototüübi, mis näitas, milline oleks võinud välja näha E21 avatud versioon. Mudel jäi aga katseprojektiks ning BMW ei viinud seda lahendust tootmisse.
Tehniliselt põhines see prototüüp BMW 316-l, mis kuulus E21 mudelirea tagasihoidlikumasse otsa. Selle auto tähtsus ei seisne niivõrd tehnilistes näitajates, vaid selles, et see näitab hästi, kui erinevaid võimalusi BMW 3. seeria varases arenduses kaaluti. Karmanni prototüüp annab E21 mudeliperele huvitava “mis oleks võinud olla” mõõtme ning sobib hästi 3. seeria ajalukku kui haruldane ja vähe tuntud kõrvalepõige.

Minu kollektsioonis olev mudel on AutoCulti toodang. Tegemist on piiratud tiraažiga ning mudelit toodeti 333 eksemplari. Mudel kujutab 1975. aasta autot.

The BMW 316 Cabriolet Prototype Karmann (E21) is one of the most interesting side branches in the history of the first-generation 3 Series, because it never became a production model and remained a prototype instead. The E21 generation was launched in 1975, and an open-top version was also considered on its basis. One possible solution was developed by Karmann, which created a two-door cabriolet prototype showing what an open E21 might have looked like. However, the project remained an experiment and BMW never put this version into production.
Technically, the prototype was based on the BMW 316, one of the more modest versions in the E21 range. The significance of the car lies less in its technical figures than in the way it shows how many different possibilities were explored during the early development of the 3 Series. The Karmann prototype gives the E21 family an interesting “what might have been” dimension and fits well into 3 Series history as a rare and little-known offshoot.

The model in my collection is produced by AutoCult. It is a limited edition of 333 pieces and represents a 1975 car.
