Just selline ebaharilik segu tehnilisest julgusest, tudengite loovusest ja väga väikese tootmismahuga prototüübi staatusest teeb BMW Hurricanist ühe kõige huvitavama 1960. aastate BMW erimudeli.
Minu kollektsioonis olev Avenue 43 mudelauto kujutab 1964. aasta autot ning pärineb piiratud tiraažist, kokku toodeti 333 eksemplari.

Võimsus: umbes 120 hj

The BMW Hurrican was a unique prototype completed in 1964, created outside BMW’s official development programme and becoming one of the most unusual side branches in the marque’s history. The car was built on BMW 1800 foundations and was created by students of the Palatine technical school in Kaiserslautern, who sought to combine BMW mechanical engineering with a much bolder, more streamlined and more sporting body shape. This is precisely what makes the Hurrican such a special model, because it was not an official factory concept car, but an independent and ambitious engineering and design project that still clearly carried the spirit of BMW. According to the available information, the car remained a one-off.
Technically, the BMW Hurrican used a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine producing around 120 horsepower. The car was based on the BMW 1800 of the Neue Klasse era, but its appearance differed completely from BMW’s normal design language. Body details were taken from several different manufacturers, resulting in a highly distinctive coupé in which aerodynamics and a sporting look were strongly emphasized. It is exactly this unusual combination of technical boldness, student creativity and one-off prototype status that makes the BMW Hurrican one of the most interesting BMW special cars of the 1960s.
The Avenue 43 model car in my collection represents a 1964 car and comes from a limited production run, with 333 pieces produced in total.
Technical data at a glance:
Production period: 1964
Production location: Germany
Engine: 1.8-litre inline-four
Power output: approx. 120 hp
Production total: 1 car
Special feature: a one-off BMW prototype created by students, combining Neue Klasse engineering with a highly unusual aerodynamic coupé body
