Disainilt kandis E64 edasi 2000. aastate alguse BMW julget kujundusjoont. Pikk mootorikate, madal vööjoon, jõuline tagaosa ja voolujooneline külgprofiil andsid autole tugeva ning äratuntava ilme. Avatud kere muutis 6. seeria iseloomu pehmemaks ja elegantsemaks kui kupeel, kuid auto säilitas siiski suure BMW sportliku hoiaku. Pehme tekstiilkatus sobis hästi mudeli klassikalise grand tourer’i iseloomuga ning võimaldas hoida auto silueti suletud katusega suhteliselt voolujoonelisena.
BMW 6. seeria Cabrio (E64) tähtsus seisneb selles, et see tõi BMW mudelivalikusse tagasi suure luksusliku avatud grand tourer’i. See ei olnud väikese sportkabrioleti ega lihtsalt lahtise 3. seeria suurem versioon, vaid omaette tippklassi mudel, mis ühendas esinduslikkuse, mugavuse, jõudluse ja avatud sõidu emotsiooni. E64 sobis hästi ostjale, kes soovis kupee elegantsi, kuid eelistas avatud kerega auto elamust.
Koos E63 Coupéga moodustas E64 Cabrio 2000. aastate BMW 6. seeria tuumiku.
Minu kollektsioonis olev mudel on Kyosho toodang. Tegemist on BMW ametliku edasimüüjamudeliga. Mudel kujutab 2004. aasta BMW 6. seeria Cabrio (E64) autot.

BMW 6 Series Cabriolet (E64) was the open-top grand tourer of the second-generation 6 Series and one of BMW’s most elegant luxury convertibles of the 2000s. The model reached the market in 2004 and complemented the E63 Coupé with an open-body version in the 6 Series family. While the E63 Coupé brought BMW’s tradition of large coupés back into the modern era, the E64 Cabriolet added open-air driving emotion, a luxurious interior and a character well suited to long-distance travel.
The E64 was technically based on the same platform as the E63 Coupé and was related to the technical basis of the E60-generation 5 Series. At the same time, the 6 Series Cabriolet had a clearly more exclusive and emotional character. It was not intended simply as a practical four-seat convertible, but as a luxury grand tourer designed to offer a comfortable, powerful and prestigious driving experience even over longer distances.
In terms of design, the E64 continued BMW’s bold design language of the early 2000s. The long bonnet, low beltline, powerful rear section and flowing side profile gave the car a strong and recognisable appearance. The open body gave the 6 Series a softer and more elegant character than the Coupé, while the car still retained the sporting stance of a large BMW. The soft fabric roof suited the model’s classic grand tourer character and allowed the car to keep a relatively flowing silhouette when closed.
One of the distinctive features of the E64 Cabriolet was its roof construction with a glass rear window. The roof was not merely a traditional soft-top, but part of the car’s overall design concept. With the roof closed, the car retained an elegant profile; with the roof open, it offered the classic and prestigious feeling of a large luxury convertible. It was a car intended to suit both relaxed summer driving and fast long-distance travel on the motorway.
Inside, the BMW 6 Series Cabriolet offered a luxurious and technologically modern environment. The four-seat layout, high-quality materials, driver-oriented dashboard and BMW iDrive control system made it a very modern convertible for its time. The E64 was not as uncompromisingly sporting as the M models, but focused on combining luxury, comfort and BMW’s characteristic driving feel.
The engine range covered both sporting and long-distance-oriented versions. In the early line-up, the V8-powered 645Ci played an important role and suited the character of the large luxury convertible well. It was later replaced by the 650i, with an even more powerful 4.8-litre V8 producing 367 hp. The six-cylinder 630i offered a lighter and more balanced alternative. After the model update, the 635d Cabriolet also joined the range, with a 3.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that suited the long-distance character of the large convertible especially well.
At the top of the E64 model family stood the BMW M6 Cabriolet, which was a separate M model. Its naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V10 engine produced 507 hp and turned the open-top 6 Series into a very special high-performance grand tourer. Alongside the regular 6 Series Cabriolet, the M6 showed how far the same platform could be developed in a sporting direction.
The significance of the BMW 6 Series Cabriolet (E64) lies in the way it brought a large luxury open-top grand tourer back into the BMW model range. It was not a small sports convertible or simply a larger open-top 3 Series, but a distinct flagship-class model combining prestige, comfort, performance and the emotion of open-air driving. The E64 suited buyers who wanted the elegance of a coupé, but preferred the experience of an open body.
Together with the E63 Coupé, the E64 Cabriolet formed the core of the 2000s BMW 6 Series. This model generation brought the 6 Series name back after a long absence and gave BMW’s large two-door grand tourers a new modern identity. While the E63 represented the closed-body sporting luxury coupé, the E64 showed the more elegant and emotional open-top interpretation of the same idea.
