BMW Vision EfficientDynamics on üks olulisemaid BMW ideeautosid 21. sajandil, sest see näitas esimest korda väga selgelt, millises suunas liiguvad margi tulevased elektrifitseeritud sportautod. Mudelit esitleti 2009. aastal Frankfurdi autonäitusel ning see ühendas väga futuristliku disaini, kerge konstruktsiooni ja pistikhübriidse jõuallika. Auto madal kiilukujuline kere, läbipaistvad pinnad ja dramaatilised proportsioonid tegid sellest ühe oma aja tähelepanuväärsema BMW kontseptauto. Selle mudeli tähtsus seisneb ka selles, et just sellest kasvas hiljem välja seeriatootmisse jõudnud BMW i8.
Tehniliselt kasutas BMW Vision EfficientDynamics 1,5-liitrist turbodiiselmootorit koos kahe elektrimootoriga. Süsteemi koguvõimsus ulatus umbes 356 hobujõuni ja pöördemoment 800 njuutonmeetrini, mis andis autole sportauto tasemel sooritusvõime. Samal ajal rõhutas BMW väga madalat kütusekulu ja heitmenäite, näidates, et tuleviku jõudlusauto ei pea tähendama loobumist efektiivsusest. Vision EfficientDynamics oli seega väga selge tulevikuvisioon, milles ühendati BMW jaoks olulised märksõnad: jõudlus, innovatsioon ja säästlikkus.

The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics is one of the most important BMW concept cars of the 21st century, because it clearly showed the direction of the brand’s future electrified sports cars for the first time. Revealed at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, it combined highly futuristic design, lightweight construction and a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Its low wedge-shaped body, transparent surfaces and dramatic proportions made it one of the most striking BMW concept cars of its era. The significance of this model also lies in the fact that it later evolved into the production BMW i8.
Technically, the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics used a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine together with two electric motors. Combined system output was around 356 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, giving the car sports-car-level performance. At the same time, BMW emphasized very low fuel consumption and emissions, showing that a future performance car did not have to come at the expense of efficiency. Vision EfficientDynamics was therefore a very clear future statement, combining the qualities that mattered most to BMW: performance, innovation and sustainability.
