BMW 1. seeria Coupé (E82) debüteeris 2007. aastal ning tõi BMW mudelivalikusse tagasi kompaktse tagaveolise sportkupee, mille vaimne side ulatus varasemate klassikaliste väiksemate BMW kupeedeni. The BMW 1 Series Coupé (E82) debuted in 2007 and brought a compact rear-wheel-drive sports coupé back into BMW’s model range. Its spiritual connection reached back to earlier classic small BMW coupés. The E82 was technically based on the 1 Series hatchback, but received its own body shape, with a longer bonnet, a short rear end and a clearly sportier overall appearance. This made the model, for many enthusiasts, a modern interpretation of BMW’s classic driver-focused small coupés.
When introducing the 1 Series Coupé, BMW emphasised its compact dimensions, four-seat interior, rear-wheel drive and very agile handling. BMW also linked the character of the model to the brand’s earlier sporting heritage, especially the spirit of the BMW 02 Series. The E82 was therefore not simply a two-door version of the 1 Series, but a model with which BMW once again offered a small, cleanly proportioned and driver-focused coupé.
Technically, the BMW 1 Series Coupé was offered with several petrol and diesel engines, including both four- and six-cylinder versions. One of the best-known top versions of the model range was the 135i Coupé, which used a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 306 hp. Rear-wheel drive, balanced weight distribution and the stiffer two-door body made the E82 one of the most highly regarded compact BMWs of its era in terms of handling.
The importance of the E82 in BMW’s model history also lies in the fact that it remained one of the last smaller BMW coupés with a classic layout before the model families were renamed. In 2013, it was replaced by the 2 Series Coupé, but the E82 retained a special place for many enthusiasts thanks to its simple and concentrated character: compact body, rear-wheel drive, coupé proportions and the option of a powerful six-cylinder engine.
