Dixi R8 6/14 PS Doppelphaeton kuulub Saksamaa varase autotööstuse ajajärku ning esindab aega, mil Eisenachis tegutsenud Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach tootis veel Dixi nime all suuremaid ja prestiižsemaid sõidukeid. Mudelit pakuti alates 1908. aastast ning see jäi tootmisse kuni 1914. aastani. Tegemist oli ajastule iseloomuliku avatud reisiautoga, mille elegantne ja esinduslik Doppelphaeton-kere pakkus ruumi neljale reisijale. Sellised autod ei olnud mõeldud laiale tarbijaskonnale, vaid pigem jõukamatele ostjatele, kelle jaoks auto tähendas lisaks praktilisusele ka staatust ja esinduslikkust. Dixi varased mudelid olidki osa sellest maailmast, kus auto oli veel haruldane ja luksuslik ese.
Tehniliselt kasutas Dixi R8 6/14 PS 1,5-liitrist neljasilindrilist mootorit, mille võimsus ulatus umbes 14 hobujõuni 1600 pöörde juures minutis. Mootor oli külgklappidega, jahutati veepumbaga ning segu valmistati oma aja kohta tüüpilise pihustuskarburaatori abil. Jõud kanti tagasillale kolmeastmelise käigukasti kaudu ning pidurid mõjusid tagaratastele. Dixi R8 6/14 PS on huvitav ka seetõttu, et see pärineb ajastust, mis eelnes BMW autotootmisele Eisenachis, kuid kuulub samasse pikemasse tehase ja piirkonna autoloo järjepidevusse.
Minu kollektsioonis olev mudel on AutoCulti toodang. Tegemist on piiratud tiraažiga ning mudelit toodeti 333 eksemplari.

The Dixi R8 6/14 PS Doppelphaeton belongs to the early era of the German automobile industry and represents the period when Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach was still building larger and more prestigious cars under the Dixi name. The model was offered from 1908 and remained in production until 1914. It was a typical open touring car of its time, with an elegant and distinguished Doppelphaeton body providing seating for four passengers. Cars of this kind were not intended for a mass market, but rather for wealthier customers, for whom an automobile represented not only mobility but also status and presence. Early Dixi models formed part of exactly this world, when the automobile was still a rare and luxurious object.
Technically, the Dixi R8 6/14 PS used a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing around 14 horsepower at 1,600 rpm. The engine used side valves, was cooled by a water pump and relied on a spray-type carburettor, typical of the period. Power was sent to the rear axle through a three-speed gearbox, and braking acted on the rear wheels. The Dixi R8 6/14 PS is also interesting because it comes from the era before BMW automobile production in Eisenach, yet still belongs to the longer automotive history of the same factory and region.
