BMW 1600 Ti Coupé Paul Bracq kuulub nende eriprojektide hulka, mis näitavad hästi, kuidas BMW otsis 1960. aastate lõpus uusi võimalusi oma mudelivaliku laiendamiseks. Plaan siiski teostuseni ei jõudnud ning auto jäi üheks huvitavaks kõrvalharuks BMW kupeedisaini ajaloos.

The BMW 1600 ti Coupé Paul Bracq belongs to the group of special projects that show how BMW was searching for new ways to expand its model range in the late 1960s. It was a project created in 1969 with the aim of giving the BMW 02 Series mechanical basis a more attractive and elegant coupé body. The car was designed by Paul Bracq, whose role in BMW design history is highly significant, and this connection gives the model strong historical and stylistic value. Compared with the standard two-door body of the 02 Series, Paul Bracq’s coupé appeared far more streamlined and refined. Its overall look was low, elegant and well balanced, clearly reflecting an attempt to offer BMW something more sophisticated than before. This was not merely a styling exercise, but a genuine production-oriented special project, with body manufacturing planned for the French company Brissonneau & Lotz. The plan was never realised, however, and the car remained one of the more interesting side branches in the history of BMW coupé design.
The significance of the model lies above all in the way it reflects BMW’s design ambition during a period when the company was looking for new solutions both stylistically and in terms of market positioning. The BMW 1600 ti Coupé Paul Bracq never reached series production, but precisely for that reason it remains a particularly interesting and rare project, linking the engineering of the 02 Series with Paul Bracq’s design language and the European coachbuilt spirit of the late 1960s.
