BMW Z1 (E30) oli Z-seeria esimene mudel ja üks kõige erilisemaid roadstereid, mida BMW on kunagi tootnud. Mudel jõudis turule 1989. aastal ning sündis BMW Technik GmbH projektina, mille eesmärk oli katsetada uusi tehnilisi ja disainilahendusi. Z1 paistis kohe silma oma ebatavaliste ustega, mis liikusid alla küljekarpidesse, ning eemaldatavate kerepaneelidega. Lisaks tähistas see BMW jaoks kaheistmelise roadster’i tagasitulekut pärast pikka pausi ning pani aluse kogu hilisemale Z-mudelite seeriale.
Tehniliselt kasutas BMW Z1 2,5-liitrist ridakuue mootorit, mille võimsus ulatus 170 hobujõuni. Mootor paigutati eesmise telje taha, et saavutada parem kaalujaotus, ning mudel sai ka uue mitmikõõtshoobse tagasilla lahenduse, mis mõjutas hiljem mitmeid teisi BMW sõiduautosid. Z1 tootmine kestis 1989. aasta märtsist kuni 1991. aasta juunini ning kokku valmistati täpselt 8000 autot. Tänapäeval on Z1 hinnatud nii oma harulduse kui ka väga omanäolise tehnilise lahenduse tõttu.
Minu kollektsioonis olev mudel on Minichampsi toodang. Mudelit toodeti 2736 eksemplari.

The BMW Z1 (E30) was the first model of the Z Series and one of the most unusual roadsters BMW has ever produced. It reached the market in 1989 and was developed as a BMW Technik GmbH project intended to explore new technical and design solutions. The Z1 immediately stood out through its unusual doors that dropped down into the sills and its removable body panels. It also marked BMW’s return to the two-seat roadster after a long break and laid the foundation for the entire later Z model line.
Technically, the BMW Z1 used a 2.5-litre inline-six producing 170 horsepower. The engine was mounted behind the front axle to improve weight distribution, and the car also introduced a new multi-link rear axle design that later influenced several other BMW passenger cars. Production lasted from March 1989 to June 1991, and exactly 8,000 cars were built. Today, the Z1 is valued both for its rarity and for its highly distinctive technical concept.
The model in my collection is produced by Minichamps. A total of 2,736 model cars were made.
