BMW 2002 Turbo (E10) oli mudel, millega BMW viis 02-seeria sportlikkuse täiesti uuele tasemele ning lõi ühe oma ajastu kõige iseloomulikuma ja julgema kompaktse sportauto. 1973. aastal esitletud 2002 Turbo oli esimene Euroopa seeriatootmises auto, millel kasutati turbokompressorit, ning see muutis BMW väikese kaheukselise sedaani palju jõulisemaks ja agressiivsemaks. Laiendatud poritiivad, eesmine spoiler ja tagurpidi kirjaga „turbo” esispoileril andsid sellele mudelile kohe äratuntava ilme, mis peegeldas hästi 1970. aastate alguse tehnilist enesekindlust ja motorspordist mõjutatud iseloomu.
Tehniliselt kasutas BMW 2002 Turbo 2,0-liitrist M10-seeria neljasilindrilist mootorit töömahuga 1990 cm³, millele lisati KKK turbokompressor ja Kugelfischeri sissepritse. Selle tulemuseks oli 170 hobujõudu ja 240–241 Nm pöördemomenti, mis tegid sellest ühe oma aja kiirema kompaktse BMW. Tippkiirus ulatus üle 210 km/h ning mudeli tootmismaht jäi väikeseks, sest õlikriisi aegne turuolukord ei soosinud nii jõulise sportauto müüki. Usaldusväärsetes koondandmetes tuuakse 2002 Turbo kogutoodanguks 1672 autot.
Minu kollektsioonis olev Minichampsi mudelauto kujutab 1974. aasta autot ning pärineb piiratud tiraažist, kokku toodeti 1008 eksemplari.

The BMW 2002 Turbo (E10) was the model with which BMW took the sporting character of the 02 Series to an entirely new level and created one of the most distinctive and daring compact performance cars of its era. Introduced in 1973, the 2002 Turbo was the first series-production car in Europe to use a turbocharger, transforming BMW’s small two-door sedan into a much more forceful and aggressive machine. Flared wheel arches, a front spoiler and the famous reversed “turbo” script on the spoiler gave the model an instantly recognisable appearance that reflected the technical confidence and motorsport influence of the early 1970s.
Technically, the BMW 2002 Turbo used the 2.0-litre M10-series four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1990 cc, fitted with a KKK turbocharger and Kugelfischer fuel injection. The result was 170 horsepower and 240–241 Nm of torque, making it one of the quickest compact BMWs of its time. Top speed exceeded 210 km/h, and production remained limited because the oil-crisis market climate did not favour such a powerful sports sedan. Reliable production summaries list total 2002 Turbo production at 1,672 cars.
