Sellest hetkest turustati mudelit nimega BMW LS.
Tehniliselt kasutas BMW LS 697 cm³ õhkjahutusega kahesilindrilist boksermootorit. Esialgu arendas mootor 30 hobujõudu, alates 1963. aasta veebruarist 32 hobujõudu. Mootor paiknes tagaosas ning jõud suunati tagaratastele. Auto tippkiirus oli umbes 120 km/h. Tootmine kestis 1962. aasta aprillist kuni 1963. aasta oktoobrini ning kokku valmis veidi alla 6000 BMW LS auto.
Minu kollektsioonis olev mudel on Minichampsi toodang.

BMW LS was the longer-wheelbase and larger-bodied saloon version of the BMW 700 model family. At the beginning of 1962, the BMW 700 saloon received a revised body with a longer wheelbase and an extended rear end. From that point on, the model was marketed as the BMW LS. It was an important small car for BMW, as the wider 700 model family helped the company recover from the difficult financial situation of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The BMW LS was launched in April 1962. It was a more basic version compared with the BMW LS Luxus, which had already been on sale since January of the same year. The LS saved the customer around 250 Deutsche Mark, but in return it lacked the richer chrome trim and several equipment details of the luxury version. In this way, the BMW LS offered the practicality and improved interior space of the longer body in a simpler and slightly more affordable form.
The design of the BMW 700 model family was created by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, and the car was also technically important for BMW because it was the brand’s first series-production car with a unitary body. The LS retained the simple and economical character of the small BMW, while the longer wheelbase and extended rear end made it a more comfortable and more mature saloon version. Although modest in size and engine output, the BMW 700 family played a very important role in the history of the company.
Technically, the BMW LS used a 697 cc air-cooled flat-twin engine. Initially the engine produced 30 hp, increasing to 32 hp from February 1963. The engine was mounted at the rear and drove the rear wheels. The car’s top speed was around 120 km/h. Production lasted from April 1962 until October 1963, and just under 6,000 BMW LS cars were built.
