Aastatel 1956–1959 toodeti vaid 273 kupeed.

The BMW 503 Coupé was one of the most elegant and expensive German grand tourers of the 1950s. The model was first introduced to the public at the 1955 Frankfurt Motor Show, alongside the legendary BMW 507, and marked BMW’s bold return to the luxury automobile market. Both the coupé and cabriolet versions were aimed at affluent customers who appreciated German engineering as well as striking design.
The car was designed by Albrecht Graf von Goertz, who also penned the BMW 507. The 503 Coupé was equipped with a full-aluminum 3.2-liter V8 engine, producing 140 horsepower and reaching a top speed of approximately 190 km/h—an impressive achievement for a mid-1950s luxury vehicle. It featured a four-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, staying true to classic grand touring configuration.
The 503 stood out for its beautifully streamlined body, long proportions, and refined detailing. The interior was richly finished with leather upholstery, wooden trim, and handcrafted elements, affirming its status at the top of BMW’s model range. It was also the first BMW model to offer electric windows, and could optionally be ordered with a radio system—true hallmarks of luxury at the time.
Although the BMW 503 was technically advanced and aesthetically remarkable, its high price limited its commercial success. Only 273 coupés were produced between 1956 and 1959, making it one of BMW’s rarest postwar production models.
