Mudelauto on toodetud Schuco poolt. Tegemist on limiteeritud seeriaga, toodeti 750 mudelit.
The BMW 600 was BMW’s attempt to build upon the success of the Isetta and offer a compact yet more spacious vehicle for four passengers. It was essentially an enlarged version of a microcar, introduced in 1957, and heavily based on the Isetta’s architecture. The car retained the signature front-opening side door, characteristic of the Isetta, but added a longer wheelbase, four-wheel configuration, and a side door for rear seat access—making it a more practical option as a small family car.
Unlike the Isetta’s motorcycle engine, the BMW 600 was equipped with a 582 cm³ flat-twin (boxer) engine, producing around 19.5 horsepower. This was the same engine used in the BMW R67 motorcycle. As a result, the BMW 600 was capable of reaching a top speed of approximately 100 km/h, making it significantly more capable than its smaller sibling. While still no match for larger sedans, it served as an important step forward in BMW’s product lineup.
BMW had hoped the 600 would allow it to break into the low-cost car market, but sales fell short of expectations. Around 35,000 units were produced before the model was discontinued in 1959. Nevertheless, the BMW 600 paved the way for the later BMW 700, the brand’s first true four-seater small car, which went on to achieve real commercial success.
The scale model has been produced by Schuco. It is part of a limited edition, with 750 units manufactured.
