BMW 700 LS tootmisperioodi jooksul valmis kokku umbes 44 500 autot, muutes sellest ühe populaarsema versiooni kogu 700 seerias. Kogu BMW 700 perekonda toodeti aastatel 1959–1965 kokku 188 211 eksemplari, millest sai oluline tugi BMW iseseisvuse säilitamisel.
Mudelauto on toodetud Minichamps poolt.
The BMW 700 LS was a significant step for BMW on its path from financial hardship to renewed growth. This compact yet more spacious version was based on the standard BMW 700 sedan and featured a longer wheelbase to provide improved comfort and stability. The abbreviation LS stood for Langversion—a long-wheelbase variant that was produced from April 1962 to October 1963.
The design was created by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti and combined simplicity with modern German engineering. Although the BMW 700 LS retained a two-door body style, the extended wheelbase allowed for noticeably more legroom in the rear compared to the standard model.
The car was powered by a 697 cm³ air-cooled, two-cylinder boxer engine, producing approximately 32 horsepower. It reached a top speed of around 120 km/h and was light, fuel-efficient, and well-suited for daily driving in urban and suburban settings. The engine was mounted at the rear, and the rear-wheel-drive layout contributed to stability and confident handling.
During its production run, approximately 44,500 units of the BMW 700 LS were built, making it one of the most popular variants of the entire 700 series. In total, 188,211 BMW 700 models were produced between 1959 and 1965, playing a crucial role in preserving BMW’s independence and enabling its future success.
The scale model was manufactured by Minichamps.
