BMW 5. seeria Touring (E39) on neljanda põlvkonna 5. seeria universaal, mis ühendas E39 sedaani hinnatud sõiduomadused suurema praktilisuse ja mahukama kerega. Touring-versioon jõudis mudelivalikusse 1997. aastal ning säilitas hästi kogu E39 põlvkonna tugevused: elegantse disaini, juhikeskse olemuse ja kõrge kvaliteeditunde. E39 Touring paistis silma puhaste proportsioonide, suure pakiruumi ja tasakaalustatud välimusega, mistõttu kujunes sellest üks hinnatumaid klassikalisi BMW universaale.
Tehniliselt võttis E39 Touring üle sedaani alumiiniumlahendustega veermiku põhikontseptsiooni, kuid kohandati seda universaalkere vajadustele sobivaks. Mudelit pakuti laia mootoriallikaga alates säästlikumatest diislitest kuni kuue- ja kaheksasilindriliste bensiinimootoriteni. Tootmine kestis kuni 2004. aastani ning kokku valmis 266 209 E39 Touringut, mis teeb sellest olulise mudeli kogu 5. seeria ajaloos. E39 mudelipere tippu kuulus ka M5, mis aitas kogu põlvkonna mainet veelgi tugevdada, kuigi Touring-versioonina seda ametlikult ei toodetud.

The BMW 5 Series Touring (E39) is the estate version of the fourth-generation 5 Series, combining the highly regarded driving qualities of the E39 sedan with greater practicality and a larger body. The Touring version joined the range in 1997 and retained the key strengths of the E39 generation: elegant design, a driver-focused character and a strong sense of quality. The E39 Touring stood out for its clean proportions, generous luggage space and balanced appearance, which made it one of the most highly regarded classic BMW estates.
Technically, the E39 Touring adopted the sedan’s chassis concept with extensive aluminium components, but adapted it to suit the requirements of the estate body. It was offered with a wide engine range, from more economical diesels to six- and eight-cylinder petrol engines. Production continued until 2004, and a total of 266,209 E39 Touring models were built, making it an important model in the history of the 5 Series. At the top of the wider E39 family was the M5, which further strengthened the reputation of the generation, although it was never officially produced as a Touring.
