BMW Z4 (E85) oli Z-seeria järgmine arenguetapp ning mudel, millega BMW viis oma kaheistmelise roadster’i moodsamasse, jäigema kere ja teravama disainiga ajastusse. Mudel jõudis turule 2002. aastal Ameerikas ja 2003. aastal Euroopas ning asendas Z3 Roadsteri. Võrreldes eelkäijaga paistis Z4 silma pikema kapoti, lühemate ülendite, selgema kiilukujulise küljejoone ja märksa väljendusrikkama disainikeelega. Samal ajal rõhutas BMW selle mudeli puhul eriti autentset roadster’i tunnetust, madalat isteasendit ja juhikeskset sõiduelamust.
Tehniliselt pakuti BMW Z4 Roadsterit nii nelja- kui kuuesilindriliste bensiinimootoritega ning mudelirea tippu kuulus hiljem ka Z4 M Roadster. Tootmine toimus Spartanburgis Ameerika Ühendriikides ning roadster jäi tootmisse kuni 2008. aastani. BMW Group Classicu andmetel toodeti esimese põlvkonna Z4 eluaja jooksul kokku 197 950 autot, neist 180 856 roadsterit ja 17 094 kupeed. Z4 tähtsus seisneb selles, et see viis Z-mudelid tehniliselt küpsemasse ajastusse ning andis mudeliperele uue, selgema identiteedi. Hiljem lisandus samale mudeliperele ka Z4 M Coupé (E86), mis viis selle kontseptsiooni veelgi sportlikumasse suunda.
Minu kollektsioonis olev mudel on Minichampsi toodang. Mudelit toodeti 1008 eksemplari.

The BMW Z4 (E85) was the next stage in the development of the Z Series and the model with which BMW moved its two-seat roadster into a more modern era defined by a stiffer body and sharper design. It reached the market in 2002 in the United States and in 2003 in Europe, replacing the Z3 Roadster. Compared with its predecessor, the Z4 stood out through its longer bonnet, shorter overhangs, more wedge-shaped side profile and much more expressive design language. At the same time, BMW placed particular emphasis on authentic roadster character, a low seating position and a driver-focused experience.
Technically, the BMW Z4 Roadster was offered with both four- and six-cylinder petrol engines, while the later Z4 M Roadster became the flagship of the open-top range. Production took place in Spartanburg in the United States, and the roadster remained in production until 2008. According to BMW Group Classic, total first-generation Z4 production reached 197,950 cars, of which 180,856 were roadsters and 17,094 were coupés. The importance of the Z4 lies in the way it brought the Z models into a more mature technical era and gave the model family a clearer identity. Later, the same family also gained the Z4 M Coupé (E86), which took the concept in an even more sporting direction.
The model in my collection is produced by Minichamps. A total of 1,008 model cars were made.
