BMW M3 Cabrio (E46)

BMW M3 Cabrio (E46) oli mudel, millega BMW kandis E46 põlvkonna M3 tehnika üle avatud keretüübile, ühendades suure jõudluse ja lahtise sõidu emotsiooni väga iseloomulikuks tervikuks. Võrreldes tavalise 3. seeria kabrioletiga eristus M3 Cabrio märksa jõulisema välimuse, laiemate poritiibade, nelja väljalaskeotsa ja sportlikuma hoiakuga. Samal ajal säilitas see siiski elegantse üldmulje, mis sobis hästi kokku E46 kabrioleti luksuslikuma iseloomuga. Just see segu vabalthingava M-mootori iseloomust, tagaveost ja avatud kerest teeb E46 M3 Cabrio üheks oma ajastu meeldejäävaimaks BMW M-mudeliks.
Tehniliselt kasutas BMW M3 Cabrio 3,2-liitrist ridakuues mootorit tähisega S54B32, mille töömaht oli 3246 cm³ ja võimsus 343 hobujõudu. Jõud kanti tagaratastele kuuekäigulise manuaalkäigukasti või SMG II järjestikkäigukasti kaudu ning auto pakkus väga vahetut sõiduelamust ka avatud keretüübina. BMW Group Classicu andmetel toodeti E46 M3 Cabrio versiooni kokku 29 633 eksemplari, samas kui kogu E46 M3 mudeliperekonna kogutoodang ulatus umbes 85 000 autoni. See annab M3 Cabriole selgelt eristuva koha E46 M3 ajaloos, sest tegu ei olnud lihtsalt kupee avatud variandiga, vaid täisväärtusliku M-autoga, mille iseloom säilis ka kabrioletina.

The BMW M3 Cabrio (E46) was the model that brought the E46-generation M3 engineering into an open-top body style, combining high performance and the emotion of roof-down driving in a very distinctive package. Compared with the regular 3 Series Convertible, the M3 Cabrio stood out through its much more muscular appearance, wider fenders, quad exhaust outlets and a more sporting stance. At the same time, it retained an elegant overall look that matched the more refined character of the E46 convertible body. It is precisely this combination of a naturally aspirated M engine, rear-wheel drive and open-top motoring that makes the E46 M3 Cabrio one of the most memorable BMW M models of its era.
Technically, the BMW M3 Cabrio used the 3.2-litre inline-six engine known as the S54B32, with a displacement of 3246 cc and an output of 343 horsepower. Power was sent to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual gearbox or the SMG II sequential transmission, and the car delivered a very direct driving experience even in convertible form. According to BMW Group Classic, a total of 29,633 E46 M3 Convertibles were produced, while overall E46 M3 production reached around 85,000 cars. This gives the M3 Cabrio a clearly defined place in E46 M3 history, because it was not merely an open version of the coupé, but a full M car in its own right.
