BMW M5 (E60) on neljanda põlvkonna M5 ning üks kõige erilisema jõuallikaga sportlikke ärisedaane, mida BMW on kunagi tootnud. Mudelit esitleti 2004. aastal ning see jõudis turule 2005. aastal, viies M5 täiesti uude tehnilisse ajastusse. Võrreldes eelkäijaga (E39) tõi E60 kaasa palju julgema disaini, oluliselt rohkem elektroonikat ja täiesti uue iseloomu, mille keskmes oli kõrgeid pöördeid armastav vabalthingav V10 mootor. Just see teeb E60 M5-st ühe kõige meeldejäävama ja eristuvama BMW M mudeli kogu margi ajaloos.
Tehniliselt kasutas BMW M5 (E60) 5,0-liitrist vabalthingavat V10-mootorit S85, mille võimsus ulatus 507 hobujõuni ja pöördemoment 520 njuutonmeetrini. Jõud kanti tagaratastele seitsmekäigulise SMG III käigukasti kaudu ning 0–100 km/h kiirendus võttis 4,7 sekundit. BMW M GmbH teatas 2010. aastal, et kogu V10-mootoriga M5 tootmine ulatus 20 548 autoni, millest 19 523 olid sedaanid ja 1 025 Touringud. E60 M5 tähtsus seisneb selles, et see oli esimene ja seni ainus V10-mootoriga M5, ühendades Formula 1 ajastust inspireeritud tehnika igapäevaselt kasutatava 5. seeria kerega.

The BMW M5 (E60) is the fourth-generation M5 and one of the most distinctive sporting executive sedans BMW has ever produced. Unveiled in 2004 and launched in 2005, it took the M5 into a completely new technical era. Compared with its predecessor (E39), the E60 introduced much bolder design, significantly more electronics and an entirely different character centred around a high-revving naturally aspirated V10 engine. That alone makes the E60 M5 one of the most memorable and unusual BMW M cars in the brand’s history.
Technically, the BMW M5 (E60) used the 5.0-litre naturally aspirated S85 V10, producing 507 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque. Power was sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed SMG III transmission, and 0–100 km/h took 4.7 seconds. In 2010, BMW M GmbH stated that total production of the V10-powered M5 reached 20,548 cars, of which 19,523 were sedans and 1,025 were Tourings. The importance of the E60 M5 lies in the fact that it was the first and still the only V10-powered M5, combining Formula 1-era inspiration with the everyday usability of the 5 Series body.
