BMW 3200 Michelotti Vignale oli ainulaadne prototüüp, mis valmis 1959. aastal ning kujutas endast väga huvitavat kohtumist Saksa tehnika ja Itaalia disainikultuuri vahel. Auto kujundas Giovanni Michelotti ning kere lõppviimistlus seostub Vignale nimega, mistõttu on sellest saanud üks kõige põnevamaid BMW erikereprojekte kogu margi ajaloos. Kuigi nime järgi võiks seda pidada 3200-seeria luksusauto sugulaseks, põhines see tegelikult BMW 507 tehnilisel alusel ning esindas pigem elegantset ja futuristlikku visiooni sellest, milline võinuks olla BMW uus kõrgetasemeline gran turismo või luksuskupee 1950. aastate lõpus. Auto esitleti Torino autonäitusel ning see jäi juba toona silma oma väga voolujoonelise, madala ja ajastule iseloomulikult itaaliapärase üldkujuga.
Tehniliselt kasutas BMW 3200 Michelotti Vignale 3,2-liitrist V8-mootorit, mis pärines BMW 507-lt ning arendas umbes 150 hobujõudu. Auto ehitati ainult ühe eksemplarina ning seeriatootmisse see kunagi ei jõudnud. Just see teeb sellest mudelist väga olulise peatüki BMW disaini- ja prototüübiloos, sest tegu ei olnud lihtsalt näituseautoga, vaid ühe võimaliku alternatiivse arengusuuna väljendusega. Michelotti loodud kuju erines märgatavalt BMW tollasest peavoolust ning näitab hästi, kui vabalt võisid sõltumatud Itaalia disainimajad tol ajastul tõlgendada ka Saksa luksusautode tulevikku.

The BMW 3200 Michelotti Vignale was a unique prototype completed in 1959, representing a fascinating meeting point between German engineering and Italian design culture. The car was styled by Giovanni Michelotti, while the final bodywork association is linked to Vignale, making it one of the most intriguing coachbuilt BMW projects in the marque’s history. Although its name suggests a connection to the 3200 luxury saloon line, it was in fact based on BMW 507 mechanicals and represented an elegant and futuristic vision of what a new high-level BMW grand tourer or luxury coupé might have looked like at the end of the 1950s. The car was shown at the Turin Motor Show and immediately stood out through its flowing, low-slung and distinctly Italian appearance.
Technically, the BMW 3200 Michelotti Vignale used the 3.2-litre V8 engine from the BMW 507, producing around 150 horsepower. Only one example was built and the design never entered series production. That is exactly what makes this model such an important chapter in BMW’s design and prototype history, because it was not merely a show car, but an expression of a possible alternative direction for the brand’s development. The shape created by Michelotti differed significantly from BMW’s mainstream design language of the period and shows very well how freely independent Italian design houses could interpret the future of a German luxury car at that time.
